My M35a2 was initially registered as a Weight Class 6 vehicle with regular plates. But renewal at that weight class is $300 a year. I thought I would drive it more often to justify the expense but didn't.
Given the option of a local tag/messenger service or heading to Harrisburg (38 miles away) I hit the road.
Process of going from regular to antique tags was simple... the 4 pics (I stopped at a Kinko's to print out my photo's on the way down) fill out two forms and presto.
$97.50 for the antique plates tags
$22.50 if you forget to take your title (I didn't think I needed it, but you do. They can print off a dupe right there for the fee)
$4.99 for the photo's
Take the old tag and proof of Insurance and that's it. Yes, its now under PA's Antique driving rules, but I didn't drive it that much to begin with.
I was in and out in 40 minutes.
I really don't like the new Antique plates.. the old ones were blue.. the new ones look like the normal plates but have a picture of an old wooden wheel car (don't know the model.. think early 1910-20's) and the word 'Antique Vehicle' on the bottom. Probably cheaper to make... but looks like crap on the back of a camouflaged M35a2.
