Hello all
I just found this forum and thought I should join...since I have been driving a GMC for 8 years now and plan on doing so for as long as I can.
My name is Uwe Zankl, I am 45 years old and live in Mittbach, a small village in Bavaria, Germany.
My CCKW-353 was built in 1944 and was overhauled in Waiblingen, Germany in 1950 before being delivered to the Norwegian Army. The truck was retired in the mid 90ties and came back to Germany in a lot of 5. I bought it in 2000 from a friend in the Frankfurt region. The truck has never been restored, just repaired when things broke down and of course repainted. The only alteration is the addition of indicators where the black out markers used to be and the addition of a second stop light in the back.
The engine has an overhaul data plate of BMW attached, maybe that's the reason why it runs soooo goood
I have been re-enacting for over 20 years now, WWII I started in 1996.
Here are some pics of my truck...the first ones with markings of the 86th ID that actually was in the region where I live in April and may 1945
Those were taken in 2004 during the "Seine to Siegfried" trip of our unit
Those show my "Jimmy" at Pegasus bridge in Normandie in 2006 during the "Back to the Bocage" trip
In the Czech Republic in 2007
I am looking forward to good "gasoline talk" around the best trucks in the world in the future.
cheers
Uwe
