Side a rear windows... uh oh.

Truck had a cracked rear and driver side glass. The front glass is good (new, in fact) and guess what. TM9-805 ain't got squat about glass. Luckily the CCKW TM10's are complete with all kinds of window info (removal of glass, regulator adjustment, etc). I really don't want to spend $35 for a copy of the TM10 for the Chevy but it seems that like the CCKW, the TM9's are woefully inadequate for the detailed stuff.

Anyway, get the glass out, take it to the local glass shop and they are gonna call back with a quote. I haven't see glass on ebay or for sale so I have no idea what glass runs.

Anyone get glass cut recently and what did you pay??

I haven't paid to have glass cut yet, but VOV gets $55 per piece, or the whole set for $250.

Empire Glass is supposed to call back tomorrow AM. If they are to high I'll get them from VoV and see if I can pick them up at Gilbert. IIRC I had Empire cut jeep glass for me and they were about $30 each.. but that was a few years ago.

SInce the TM9 is mute on glass, is this the right stuff?? I figure its the same molding as on the civvy trucks?

It looks like you have the later style, which is just like the civilian type. It has a rubber keyway strip that locks the glass into the rubber channel. (At least I think that's what I'm seeing on the left side if your pic. There is a special tool for inserting that strip. You can buy it from Jim Carter, and get a partial refund when you return the tool.

Yeah, there was a center piece that held the glass in place. The rubber was dry rotted and I pried out a big chunk by mistake.

Is the tool absolutely required? I'd thinking a dowel and some soap should work to get the locking bead in place.

Don't know. I suppose there's a dozen different ways to skin a cat. I just know that somebody thought the job needed a special tool... Let me know how the dowel and soap works out!

The two windows are $109... so Empire is cutting them and should be done next Monday.

Now to find the rear seal and some rubber strips for the drivers window.

Your glass vendor should be able to supply the glass setting tape for the side windows. You might also ask how much for them to set the glass in the frames.

Steele Rubber Products sells good stuff. I have their windshield seal, and I'm pretty impressed. Of course there's always the regular vendors too (Jim Carter, The Filling Station, Chevof the 40's, etc).

Jim Carter lists the part for $21.50 (Maybe $8 shipping). The ebay part you linked to was $47

Is there a significant difference to justify the price difference?

I don't know. I've never installed either, nor am I familiar with where their made, how long they cost, etc. (except that Steele says they make their stuff on site). Lots of sources, lots of choices was my point.
