You know, maybe the $59.95 G506 brake line kit (ie a roll of 1/4 in. tubing, and a dozen misc. fittings) would have been a better deal after all...

Of course, you know I'm looking forward to the "New and Improved" brake line kit that your original lines will be used to create. Trouble is, you might have helped to create another generation of "universal" G506 lines that'll fit any G506, with only a little "tweaking".

When I bought mine (also from VOV, but its was Bob M. running it then), there was no mention made of modifications that might be required to fit any of the several different hydrovacs that could be on my truck (if my truck even had one)...

The odds of getting a coil of line straight is pretty slim. I could have gotten a 6ft line and winged it, and while I am sure there are people out there who CAN 'wing it', I am not willing to take the time to learn the ins and outs of brake line bending. For the price I am getting (it is slightly more than $60... but not that much.. REALLY) I will be getting CNC bent tubing with armor and the proper fittings.

Plus the fuel lines (all of what, 4 lines and two hoses?) will get copied. Wanna try and 'wing' the frame to filter bends? I don't :)

Plus all this is going to be needed again once the CCKW frame starts its restoration. Plus I'm sure that others may want/need lines that fit the first time.

I would LOVE to only need to 'tweak' a line! But for $300 they simply didn't fit. Look at that photo of the master cylinder to vac line and tell me where its supposed to be routed... sure as heck not under the transfer case cross member.

There is really only one spot that needs any 'work' and that's the 'vac hookup. When I get my civvy one done I can easily forward it to the shop, and the can make a new line that will work with it. Even if no one needs/buys a set of lines...... I will have what I need, and if it is ever needed the lines are there.

Paul,

I should have used more emoticons in my post (is there one for sarcasm??) I think it's great that you are taking your brake and fuel lines to be used as patterns. If there was ANY point to my post it was that they need to know that your lines are for a specific range of G506 trucks and not a "universal" G506 set. You now as well as I do that there were changes made as the years went by, even if that was only 5 years or so.

Perhaps VOV will even be interested in selling some that actually fit!

If anyone wants to know here's the place that did the brake/fuel lines:

They are huge in the muscle car arena.

So I took up the offending brake lines, and the originals off the other two trucks. They took the VoV lines and made me new ones off the originals I gave them. I suggested that they update the patterns they had with the originals I brought... and I even tried to explain the differences in chevvy models and that even though THEIR OWN TAG labeled them a CCKW they would not fit a CCKW except for 3 or 4 lines. I even had copied of the G508/G508 brake line SNL illustrations to show the differences... He didn't take many notes... so I have no idea if they will update the patterns from mine or not.

The original set of fuel lines are also in the works. $130 for the 4 lines (from tank to L fitting, L fitting to filter in, filter out to L fitting, L fitting to engine bay. Again, he didn't take much info, and none of the paperwork I had... so I am going to guess that it will just be my set. I got the feeling that unless I had NOS and tagged lines, everything else was not of much value. That's just my opinion. I have NO IDEA is they will offer the fuel lines... I sure am not going to keep sets just laying around. So if you know anyone who wants a set, call Classic Tube, ask for Tim, tell him you want a set.... I am not going to try and sell any.

I'll post updated fit pics tomorrow.

So they reproduced them while you waited? Wow! I hope they saved the tube bend data. I'll try to call them tomorrow, and check into ordering.

Yes, the brake lines were redone while I waited... about 30 minutes for 6 lines.

The 4 fuel lines will be returned in about two weeks (mailed back to me).

I don't know if you can get a single line from a kit. At least for the Chevvy brake line kit there are no sub-part numbers... just the kit numbers... so unless they have a way to pick out the one you need, you get them all... they must get asked this all the time.

When I called a CNC brake line place in Michigan they offered to give each brake line a part number in their ordering system for a 'programming fee' of $40. That way you can call up and say you want just THAT part. Classic Tube didn't give that option.

My best advice is to call Classic Tube and ask for Tim. I dealt with him. My guess is that they will NOT sell individual lines. None of the resellers offer individual lines (Summit, Jeggs, their own web site) so I think they just want to be an OEM, not a parts place.

There was a bit of discussion on weather the J-type clip or the 'duck head' type clip was proper... my 41 chassis had the duck head clips, the other two had the j-type clips.

I'm happy with it.. lets hope that the Classic Tube pattern is changed to reflect the proper lines.

If you look at the line going to the front right wheel (it looks like a question mark at the fitting) that's the one from the VoV kit.. notice how the loop is not continuous... it flattens out from 3 to 1 o'clock... this is the line that was included in the VoV kit. The originals really do look like a question mark.
